Care & Maintenance Guide

Damascus & High-Carbon Steel Blades

Premium high-carbon and Damascus steel blades require active care to prevent tarnishing and rust. Unlike cheap stainless steel, these are authentic, high-performance metals.

  • Keep it Oiled: Wipe down the blade with a soft cloth after handling (skin oils are acidic). Regularly apply a thin layer of mineral oil, clove oil, or Renaissance Wax.

  • Dry Immediately: If the blade comes into contact with moisture, dry it completely right away. Never let it air dry.

  • Storage Caution: Do not store swords or axes inside leather sheaths for long periods. Leather traps ambient humidity and can cause localized pitting or rust.

Shield & Wooden Weapon Care

Our shields and wooden axe handles are crafted to look battle-ready, but extreme environments are their enemy.

  • Avoid Extreme Heat/Damp: Keep wooden items away from direct heat sources like radiators or fireplaces, and avoid damp basements to prevent warping or cracking.

  • Conditioning: Periodically rub down exposed wood with linseed oil or natural beeswax to maintain its strength and preserve the grain.

Drinking Horns & Horn Mugs

Natural horn is a unique organic material. Treat it like a historic artifact, not a standard kitchen glass.

  • Cold Drinks Only: Never put hot coffee, tea, or boiling liquids into a horn mug. Heat will warp, crack, and ruin the natural seal.

  • Hand Wash Only: Wash with lukewarm water and a mild dish soap. Never put your horn items in the dishwasher or microwave.

  • Maintain the Sheen: If the exterior of the horn begins to look dry or dull over time, gently rub it with a small amount of food-safe mineral oil or vegetable oil to restore its natural luster.
